2026 Season 4 Initial Release Notes [2026.09.09.01]
The iRacing 2026 Season 4 Release Build is moving out onto the track! This is one of four major annual releases for iRacing, and it adds new content, features, upgrades, and a hauler-full of fixes and tweaks. iRacing 2026 Season 4 officially starts on September 15th at 0000 UTC!
iRacing welcomes FOUR brand new cars into our garage, including the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH, two versions of the Caterham - Academy and 420R, and the Gen 4 Grand National. A diverse set of vehicles showcasing the many ways drivers race! We’ve also added THREE entirely re-scanned and re-built tracks to update the iRacing 2026 landscape: Road America, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and The Milwaukee Mile. Each of these tracks fully replace the older versions and are top-notch racing locations. Both Summit Point Raceway and Road Atlanta have also received a major artwork update, taking their appearance into the modern age. Finally, we plan to introduce a new system that more authentically replicates real-world multiclass race starts: dedicated pace cars for each car class. Please note that this feature must pass a final shakedown in Week 13’s iTested series before officially joining the IMSA iRacing Series.
Our physics processing engine has been upgraded to allow for multi-threading, making object interactions more accurate than ever before. Car Rule Sets have been made available on dozens more vehicles, providing even more structure and options to the ways you can race. Our vehicle development team has completed a significant vehicle mechanics overhaul for both the Global Mazda MX-5 Cup and the Sprint Car - these cars should feel nearly brand new, and drive much closer to their real-life counterparts.
The iRacing Simulation has been updated from stem to stern for complete UTF8 character support - this includes chat messages, display names, and all files associated with iRacing such as Replays, Setups, and Camera sets filenames. A new UI element has been added: Reference Car UI, which allows you to see live controls inputs from a reference car in solo sessions so you can learn and advance your own technique. TWO brand new UI Widgets are now available: Pit Summary which provides control and visibility to everything related to a pit stop, and Car Damage for a select few cars which displays the general health of your vehicle. The F9 Black Box has been reimagined as a Quick Access panel to add easy use for a variety of impactful options. A new UI Mode is also now available: “Minimal” where you can strip down your interface to only the essentials and anything else you’d like to keep pinned. Following up from last Season, the Fuel Calculator Widget algorithms have received more data and have improved estimates. The Track Map Widget has also been updated with some quality improvements for ease of use.
The iRacing Launcher Team has completed a full rebuild of the Team Registration process, making it easier than ever to clearly see how your team is registered for an event, and what everyone is signed-up for. The Leagues area has been refreshed, leaving runway for upcoming improvements. Past Results may now be viewed as individual pages. When launching a solo session from an Official Session, you may now also carry in the BoP from the event to your test session, allowing you to practice better. The team also completed a re-build of the iRacing Companion App recently which will allow for even better future development - if you haven’t gotten the latest updates for it yet, be sure to grab them from your device’s preferred app store!
Finally, AI racing has been expanded to EIGHT new cars, including: Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH, Caterham - Academy and 420R, Gen 4 Grand National, Chevrolet Corvette C7 Daytona Prototype, Formula Renault 2.0, [Legacy] BMW Z4 GT3, and [Legacy] Riley MkXX Daytona Prototype - 2008. AI racing is also now available at NINETEEN new track configs, including: Auto Club Speedway - Competition, Interior, and Moto, Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, Kansas Speedway - Infield Road Course and Road Course, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course - All configs, Oswego Speedway - Dirt, Road America - All configs, The Milwaukee Mile - Both configs, and USA International Speedway - Dirt. Rain racing availability comes pre-loaded with the new Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH and both Caterhams as well as all non-Oval new track configs.

iRACING Launcher

Updater
Now the iRacing Launcher correctly re-launches the iRacingUI when requested by the iRacing Updater after installing packages. Also, we make sure we don't do any download status updates to send to the UI once downloading completes.
Teams
The iRacing Launcher Team has completed a re-build of the Team Registration window! The window layout has been optimized, team member listings and roles are now more clear, and the warnings for fair-share driving and registering as a solo driver have been improved. We have also added a Verification Step, allowing you to see the list of drivers being registered and for which team before finishing things up.
Leagues
The Leagues area of the iRacing Launcher has been rebuilt, with a focus on things behind the scenes. You won’t see anything different now, but we have a plan for future development here!
Results
Results from past Sessions may now be viewed on their own pages and with links!
Browse past results and season standings for any series directly on pages, use deep links to bookmark, share, or navigate faster to series results and season standings.
Test Drive
When selecting to run a Test Drive based off of an Official Session, you may now enter into that Test Drive with the BoP parameters for your selected car automatically loaded and applied. This gives you a much more exact test driving experience for that Official Session!

Physics
Multi-threaded physics processing has been enabled.
We have refactored and multi-threaded the core physics update loop, an internal initiative we call ‘Physics Islands.’ By slicing the physics workload and parallelizing the end of the physics tick, calculations are now distributed cleanly across available CPU threads. While single-car test sessions will feel as crisp as ever, the gains in heavy traffic are massive: in full-field races, crowded multi-car battles, and large AI grids, CPU physics overhead drops by 50% or more across a wide range of hardware.
Improved how changes in fuel mass impact the center of gravity of vehicles.
Tire preparation is now performed for every reset of the car during a lone qualifying session on road courses as opposed to only when the car first enters the world.
Race Control
Pending a successful test in Week 13’s iTested series, multiclass starts with per-class pace cars will roll out to select official series, beginning with the iRacing IMSA Series. We will continuously expand support to other official series, Hosted iRacing, and AI Racing in future updates.

Some more details on Road Course Start Zones - for both Single and Multiclass:
When Start Zones are selected for the active session, race participants will be shown the pace speed at all times during the rolling grid pre-race pace lap. The pace value will be shown in grey so drivers know the exact speed of the pace car. As cars approach the pit lane entry they should be formed up into an orderly grid and maintain the pace speed. After the pace car pulls into the pit lane, the pace speed will change from grey to yellow. When the pace speed is yellow, race control pace speed control is now active. Any attempts to jump the start by accelerating early will receive a jumped start penalty. All rows must maintain the pace speed until Barney, Legendary Flagman, drops the green flag to signal that the race has started.
The message for failing to meet driver change requirements for an event has been updated.
Fixed an issue where cars with higher car numbers could be delayed when entering Qualifying.
Pit Stops
Updated a variety of pitstop procedures to more accurately reflect the number of available wheel guns, tire change times and jacking procedures. See individual class and car notes for more details.
Graphics
Smoke-like effects have been converted to use the PopcornFX particles systems.
This conversion includes vehicle smoke, tire smoke, dust, and water puffs. Each of these should visually appear much as they did before, but with some enhancements for rendering performance, visual density, brightness, and behavior with light sources.
Slightly increased the rate of dirt, dust, grime, smoke, rubber, and other particulate build-up on racecar windshields.
Rain particle effects have been updated with new rain drop shapes and sizes. The perceived velocity of raindrops now also changes based on camera distance, and distance fade is now influenced by particle size, opacity, wind, and wind gusts. Also improved the wind speed and direction sampling applied to visible particles based on the data for the visible area.
A rain mist effect has been added.
Shaders and color variations for visiting race weekend vehicles have been updated.
The IMSA font on cars has been updated.
Fixed an issue where tire marks were showing up from other cars in Lone Qualifying sessions.
Fixed an issue where some track-side objects could appear excessively bright at night.
Virtual Reality
VR screen width and screen depth options are now adjustable in real-time.
They should not require a Sim restart to take effect.
User Interface
On the session screen the existing Toggle UI Visibility (space bar by default) has been renamed Cycle UI Visibility Mode. It will now cycle between the UI between normal, minimal (only pinned and required widgets), and completely hidden.
Note: if no widgets are pinned the minimal mode is skipped and the behavior is the same as before.
On the Drive Screen a new keybind has been added: Toggle Minimal Drive UI. This behaves similar to the session binding, but will never go to a totally hidden mode.
Note: as on the session screen the minimal mode will only be entered if at least one widget is pinned.
Widgets can be pinned in edit layout (alt k) mode by either clicking the pin on the header of each item or by clicking the pin in the widget's row in the widget editor.
Some widgets do not have a pinning option. This is typically because they are required and so cannot be unpinned.
The plan is to add this pinning to the session screen tabs, but things like the penalties and flags display follow the rule above.
A new UI element has been added: Reference Car UI!
In Time Trial, Time Attack, and Test Drive, you may now enable the Reference Car UI element. This is a floating 2D billboard within the 3D space of the Simulator above your target reference car. This display shows live driver controls inputs, including throttle and brake application, allowing you to analyze the driver’s technique and advance your own driving.
There is presently a known issue where the Reference Car UI element does not appear for users with VR - we are still investigating, and will be sure to get this fixed in a Patch!
A new Car Damage widget has been added!
The Car Damage widget is a graphical representation of the spotter damage report to visually see this approximate state of physical damage to the car. The widget displays a wireframe version of your vehicle, and areas of the mesh will change color to indicate the level of damage sustained, if any, in that area. It is important to again note that this is approximate and not artificially precise.
Green indicates that the area is completely un-damaged, yellow is minor damage, orange is some damage, red is critical damage, gray is for when the part is completely missing. White is for a part that can not be damaged, such as the tub.
The bottom shows information for your wheel/suspension damage.
The top-right side also has some iconography for when the spotter reports engine damage, high temps, and/or fluid leaks.
The Car Damage widget will initially only be available for a select set of vehicles, including: Global Mazda MX-5 Cup, Toyota GR86, BMW M2 Racing (G87), Renault Clio R.S. V, Ray FF1600, Mini Stock, and Lucas Oil Off Road Pro 2 Truck.
A new Pit Summary widget has been added!
The Pit Summary widget consolidates almost all the info you might need about making a pit stop into a single place. It displays where you and your pit stall is along pit road, tow time, fast repairs, service time, required and optional repairs, tire changes, fuel, and how long you’ve been in the pits. If you have any penalties to serve, a row will be added to the widget display, too. You can also manipulate the controls within the widget to plan and execute your pit stops!
It is now a Quick Access menu to multiple smaller areas with quickly tunable values.
Navigation up and down is done using the normal controls.
Using the increment or toggle button on a top level item will enter that sub-menu.
Using the inc/dec buttons while in a sub-menu item is focus engaged will increment and decrement the value.
Added several improvements for the Session Screen and Blackbox in Multiclass sessions:
Added a new Class column to Session Results.
Fixed an issue with the Session Results not properly filtering by class when not sorted by car number.
Session Driver Focus Panel now shows Class Position / Number of Positions in Class.
Lap Timing Blackbox now shows Class Position.
Standings Blackbox can now filter between classes to match with the Standalone Widget version. It defaults to the player's class.
A variety of updates have been made to improve the Fuel Calculator Widget!
The Fuel Calculator algorithms have been tuned using data collected this past season for improved estimates. We will continue to strengthen the calculations as we get more data in the future.
The Fuel Calculator Widget now works for non-driver teammates.
Laps left also matches what is shown in the Black Box UI, whereas previously it was slightly off.
Fixed the race length we use to calculate stops to always use the shorter of the time-based and lap-based lengths.
Stabilized the pit window calculations and fixed an issue where data may not have been generating correctly for timed races.
Fixed some logic to provide better and more stable estimates for the pit window. Also fixed counting pre- and post-race segments as valid in some edge cases.
Fixed an issue where the Fueled to End graphics were malformed.
A variety of updates have been made to the Track Map Widget!
Joker and Start paths for Rallycross tracks have been added.
Larger sizes are now allowed.
Fixed an issue where the lap up/down indicators were disappearing as soon as the first driver completed the event, instead of waiting for the player to cross the finish line.
The lapped car outline will now display a bit earlier so when a player gets blue flagged they know who is about to lap them.
UI support has been added for 16 car classes.
We now show a color and a shape for each of the 16 car classes. The Session Results menu, Black Box Relative and Standings, and Track Map all support the new shapes.
UTF8 character support has been fully enabled for file names and paths.
You should be able to use any characters for your Windows login name, the path where the Simulator is installed, and any user provided file names (camera files, replays, setups, etc.).
Added options to adjust the Reference Car Offset and Opacity in the Drive screen.
For the Controls Input Widget, now there is immediate visual feedback while you are shifting gears, even before the actual gear change is accepted. When shifting up, you will see yellow bars above the current gear momentarily, and when shifting down, the bars will appear below the current gear. This gives users peace of mind that hardware is working and inputs are being detected in the Sim.
The visibility of this can be toggled in the widget editor.
For HUD Profiles, we'll now limit the height of the profile picker to prevent it running off screen.
VR Screen Width and Screen Distance UI Options can now be changed without requiring Simulator restart.
Removed the " character from the tire info black box.
Changed (OMI) to (IMO) for right front/rear tires in F5 tire info box.
For Session Screen Results, Standings are now class aware.
Fixed several issues with the Garage area, including:
Fixed alignment of text labels in the garage. Centered text should now be properly centered.
Fixed a text clipping for long checkbox labels (such as the vinyl wrap options on the IR18).
Fixed an issue where a personal setup named "baseline.sto" could not be deleted.
Fixed an issue where Laps To Go wasn't updating on the session screen.
Fixed an issue where some Rookie iRatings were incorrectly visible.
Controls
360 Hz support has been added to Conspit wheels.
Spotter/Crew Chief
Fixed an issue where your spotter could notify you about "nearby" cars that existed in other run groups. While it is cool he can see things in parallel universes, that's not very helpful for your rejoin process.
Fixed an issue with triggering stale or unintentional spotter calls.
Spotter Packs
All English language spotter packs have been prepended with "English-".
A new Chinese (Mandarin) Spotter Pack has been added, using a female voice.

A new value, "WeekendInfo:AltAssetTag:" has been added to Telemetry. This can be one of the following: (blank), IMSA, NEC, NOTC, PMNA, INDY, NOABSTC, NOABS, ROOKIE, WSC2017, DTM.
Sporting Code
The iRacing Sporting Code has been updated. The following adjustments were completed:
Documentation for multiclass starts with start zones has been added, and expanded some existing info about multiclass racing and start zones.
Clarified Safety Rating adjustments for Practice Sessions.
More clearly defined that Barney, Legendary Flagman, starts the race.

Support has been added for car Rule Sets!
For the default Rule Set, tires will now be changed after fueling is completed, for the IMSA Rule Set, tires and fuel will be performed simultaneously. For the NOTC and NOABSTC Rule Sets, TC is disabled.
Pit procedures will now always use 2 wheel guns which will allow any pair of 2 tires to be changed simultaneously for a cost of 10 seconds. Total time to change 4 tires is unchanged for all rulesets (20 seconds). Repairs may not be conducted during fueling when the default ruleset is in use.
<Car Class> GT3
Per the default Car Rules, fuel must now be completed prior to any ARB and wing adjustments being performed. However, the wing may now be adjusted simultaneously with ARB and tire adjustments.
Pit procedures will now always use 2 wheel guns which will allow any pair of 2 tires to be changed simultaneously for a cost of 10 seconds. Total time to change 4 tires is unchanged for all rulesets (20 seconds, except DTM where it is 7 seconds). Repairs may not be conducted during fueling when the default ruleset is in use.
Fixed an issue where the second driver in a team race could get stuck on wet TC settings after the first driver started the race on wet tires and then changed to dry.

When the NEC Rule Set is in use, the fuel fill rate is slightly slower - a full tank should now take 120 seconds.
Pit procedures will now always use 2 wheel guns which will allow any pair of 2 tires to be changed simultaneously for a cost of 18 seconds. Total time to change 4 tires is unchanged for all rulesets (35 seconds). Repairs may not be conducted during fueling when the default ruleset is in use.

Added ruleset support for IMSA, NoTC, and noABSTC rulesets.
For the default ruleset, tires and fuel are performed sequentially. 34 seconds to fill the tank, 20 seconds to change all 4 tires.
Enforcement of TC lockouts have been reinforced when using either NoTC or NoABSTC rulesets.
Pit procedures will now always use 2 wheel guns which will allow any pair of 2 tires to be changed simultaneously for a cost of 10 seconds. Total time to change 4 tires is unchanged for all rulesets (20 seconds). Repairs may not be conducted during fueling when the default ruleset is in use.

The Gen 4 Grand National, an Asphalt Oval car, is now ready for racing!
The Gen 4 Grand National car represents the tier one level down from the top stockcars during the 4th generation era between 1992 and 2006, before the transition to the Car of Tomorrow (CoT). While visually sharing the same aerodynamic sheet metal bodies as their Cup Series counterparts, the Grand National cars were built on a shorter 105-inch wheelbase. Under the hood, the series mandated a 9:1 compression ratio and smaller 390 CFM carburetors, capping the 358 cubic-inch V8s to around 600-650 horsepower. Lighter, slightly less powerful than Cup Series cars of that era, these highly agile cars required massive momentum preservation and smooth pedal inputs to maximize performance.
Like all iRacing stockcars, this car will automatically equip a specialized dirt racing tire if it is brought to a Dirt Oval track.

The Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH, a new Sports Car, is ready for racing!
When Aston Martin committed to the modern generation of prototype race cars back in 2019, fans around the world rejoiced—but it wasn’t until half a decade later that fans would finally see the fruits of their labors. Fortunately, most fans would determine that the Valkyrie AMR-LMH was worth the wait when they first heard the roar of its 6.5-liter, naturally aspirated V12 engine. But getting 670 horsepower out of the first V12 used in top-tier prototype racing in nearly 15 years isn’t the only thing that makes this car unique. Unlike many of its compatriots in IMSA and other sports car series, the Valkyrie forgoes a hybrid system. Likewise, the Adrian Newey-designed car is one of the only prototypes at any level to have a road-going version for consumers. The car made its competitive debut in Qatar in 2025 and capped off that year with its first IMSA podium in the Petit Le Mans.

Racers receive a fully guided experience as they enter the world of motorsport, and they get to keep the car at the end of the season—which they can then upgrade to compete in Caterham’s higher-level championships. While it’s part of a popular racing series, Caterham’s Academy-spec car happens to be road-legal. It produces 130 horsepower out of its Horse HR13 engine, while featuring a six-speed gearbox and limited-slip differential. The tire spec is also designed for low grip in order to teach drivers strong car control skills.

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course has been rebuilt from the ground-up with brand new laser scan data and the latest and greatest artwork techniques.
The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course ranks among America’s premier road racing facilities. The track has hosted every major American road racing series worthy of the name, and the list of drivers who have stood atop Mid-Ohio’s victory podium is a Who’s Who of racing greats. Constructed near Mansfield, OH in 1962 by Les Griebling and several prominent local businessmen, Mid-Ohio originally featured a 2.4 mile, 15 turn layout consisting of a blend of fast, medium and slow speed corners, one long straightaway and several dramatic elevation changes. Although the track was updated over the years, Jim Trueman (founder of the Red Roof Inn motel chain and TrueSports Racing) thoroughly modernized the facility after acquiring the track in 1982. In addition to a new garage, paddock and operations tower, the update tweaked the track layout by by-passing the Keyhole chicane, resulting in an optional 2.25 mile, 13 turn circuit. Both configurations begin with the daunting Turn One, a blind, 100+ mph corner, include a roller-coaster series of esse bends known as “Madness” and conclude with a near-360 degree Carousel that has a virtually unlimited number of lines and apexes. More recently, a “short course” was created by connecting the exit of Turn One to the back straight-away, and there is also a new mini-oval utilizing the Keyhole Hairpin and another 180 degree turn linking the track on the approach and exit to the Keyhole. In its near-fifty year history, Mid-Ohio has hosted America’s premier racing series including the United States Road Racing Championship, Can-Am, Trans-Am and Formula 5000, along with IMSA, IndyCar and NASCAR races. As well, Mid-Ohio has long been a club racing mecca and enjoyed a 12 year run as the home of the Sports Car Club of America’s National Championship Runoffs from 1994 through 2005. For 2026, iRacing has rescanned and rebuilt Mid-Ohio from the ground up.

FULLY UPDATED TRACK!
Road America has been rebuilt from the ground-up with brand new laser scan data and the latest and greatest artwork techniques.
Located outside the picturesque village of Elkhart Lake, in Wisconsin’s beautiful Kettle Moraine region, an hour north of Milwaukee and just two hours from Chicago, Road America opened in 1955. From 1950 through 1953 the town had been host to annual sports car races conducted on ad-hoc circuits made up of linked sections of county highways, but safety concerns ended open-road racing. The track was built by local civil engineer Cliff Tufte, who set out a 14-turn, four-mile ribbon of pavement, literally over hill and dale. Tufte took advantage of the hillsides adjacent to many parts of the track to provide natural viewing areas for spectators. Road America, one of the world’s classic road-racing venues, has been host to every important North American racing series, beginning with SCCA sports cars in the 1950s, to the Can-Am and Trans-Am in the ’60s and ’70s, IMSA’s GT and GTP cars since the ’70s, and IndyCars beginning in 1982. NASCAR ran a race at Road America in 1956, won by the legendary Tim Flock, and now includes the Wisconsin road course on its Nationwide Series schedule. The June Sprints, put on annually for more than 50 years by the SCCA’s Chicago Region, draws 600+ amateur sports car racers and as many as 30,000 spectators. The current schedule also includes vintage and motorcycle racing. Road America is beloved both by spectators, who are afforded a variety of spectacular views and by drivers, who value the challenges the track presents. And while Road America enjoys a rich tradition, it is not a prisoner of its history. A recent upgrade to the facility saw spectator viewing and paddock access improved by the replacement of the Bill Mitchell bridge with a tunnel a hundred yards further down the road. A further nod to the performance gains wrought by modern technology is the addition of an optional chicane at Road America’s famous “kink” in the back straightaway, providing a second configuration for race series that don’t wish to expose their drivers to one of motorsport’s biggest thrills every four miles. iRacing’s all-new 2026 scan of Road America adds its Short East and West layouts to the existing Full Course and Bend layouts.

The Milwaukee Mile

The Milwaukee Mile has been rebuilt from the ground-up with brand new laser scan data and the latest and greatest artwork techniques.
The world’s oldest continuously operating motorsport facility, the Milwaukee Mile boasts more than a century’s worth of history. While the track honors its history each year with the Millers at Milwaukee Vintage Indy Car Event, it’s the challenge of getting modern racing cars around Milwaukee’s barely banked corners that makes every race day at this Midwestern fairground oval another page in the history book. From its opening in 1905 the Mile has been home to open-wheel racing cars – for the first 49 years as a dirt track and since 1954 as a paved one. For more than 60 years Milwaukee served as the next stop on the IndyCar circuit following the Indy 500, where drivers who had bad race at Indy got another shot at glory. Over the years the Milwaukee Mile has also played host to USAC’s Silver Crown cars and Midgets as well as NASCAR, ARCA, ASA and the Mid-American Stock Car Series. The track has been re-scanned for 2026, adding a road course layout to its traditional oval layout.
The Milwaukee Mile includes two track configs: Oval and Road Course.
